The article addresses a current issue concerning the integration of scientific-research activity as an inherent function of universities since their emergence and historical evolution. The objective is to argue the essential ideas for the proposal of a model of integration of scientific research as part of the activity of the university teacher in the Dominican Republic. In the materials and methods, we start from the dialectical - materialist conception of scientific knowledge, which allows the articulation of empirical and theoretical scientific methods, such as the historical - logical, the system approach, the analytical - synthetic, theoretical systematization, as well as such as the study of documentary sources and the survey. Among the main results are the background of the historical evolution of university models, its expression in the Dominican Republic and the need to integrate scientific research as an activity of the university teacher, the construct of this concept and the dimensions and starting indicators. for the diagnosis prior to the development of the model proposal. Among the conclusions, the main trends in the evolution of university models stand out as a necessary background to understand the manifestation of this process in Latin America and in the Dominican Republic in particular, the main characteristics of its manifestation today. and the dimensions and indicators that enhance the aspects to be taken into account in the proposal of the model as a result of the research carried out by the author for this purpose.
