Abstract:
In our teaching practice we have been able to verify the difficulty faced by fourth-year medical students, in the rotation by the specialty of surgery, when they face the issue of the calculation and correction of hydration. This is manifested first of all in the evaluations of the seminars on the subject, where the bad grades obtained by the students are repeated; We have also applied surveys that have revealed their opinions and degree of satisfaction on the subject. After the seminar on the subject, when apparently the doubts of the students have been resolved, the knowledge has been consolidated, we can appreciate days later during the visits that the problem is still in force and the students have not yet mastered the handling of liquids in patients who require it. We consider that in a group of students not all have the same capacity for assimilation and processing of knowledge, so there are differences in the results of the assessments, which is questionable whether the majority of students show deficiencies in mastering the subject. A critical reflection is made about the existing problem, a method is introduced, which shows significant changes in the learning results, which could be the solution to the deficiency detected and with this to the improvement of professional performance in correspondence with the current demands of Cuban Public Health.
