La extensión universitaria es un proceso en el cual la Universidad demuestra su carácter de centro promotor cultural muy importante para el desarrollo social. En el artículo se valoró su significación e impacto en la comunidad; se ofrecieron definiciones de promoción de cultura científica en el contexto universitario. La extensión se analizó como proceso y función, crítica y creativa, parte del concepto de la democratización del saber y asume la función social de contribuir a la mayor y mejor calidad de vida de los ciudadanos en su esfuerzo por desarrollarse plenamente. La universidad tiene el reto de preparar a sus profesionales para promover la cultura, que se origina en estos centros de altos estudios, al resto de la sociedad, a través del proceso de extensionista. Sin embargo han existido insuficiencias que imposibilitan en los estudiantes una formación integral acorde a la que exige nuestro entorno sociocultural, lo cual se pudo constatar con el empleo de métodos científicos; se destacan la observación a la práctica extensionista, entrevistas a especialista, encuestas a docentes. Las insuficiencias que en este sentido se constataron, condicionaron el desarrollo de este trabajo, trazándonos como objetivo contribuir a la promoción de la cultura científica por los docentes en formación, para ofrecer un egresado con calidad profesional, que promueva conscientemente la cultura a la sociedad. La preparación alcanzada por los docentes en formación les permitió la proyección de novedosas acciones extensionistas que contribuyeron a su desarrollo profesional y a la promoción de la cultura científica hacia la comunidad.
Abstract:
University extension is a process in which the University demonstrates its character as a cultural promoter center very important for social development. In the article, its significance and impact on the community was assessed; Definitions of promotion of scientific culture were offered in the university context. The extension was analyzed as a process and function, critical and creative, part of the concept of the democratization of knowledge and assumes the social function of contributing to the greater and better quality of life of citizens in their effort to fully develop. The university has the challenge of preparing its professionals to promote the culture, which originates in these centers of higher studies, to the rest of society, through the process of extension. However, there have been insufficiencies that make it impossible for students to receive comprehensive training in accordance with the demands of our sociocultural environment, which could be verified with the use of scientific methods; the observation to the extensionist practice, interviews to specialist, surveys to teachers stand out. The insufficiencies that were found in this regard, conditioned the development of this work, tracing us as an objective to contribute to the promotion of scientific culture by teachers in training, to offer a graduate with professional quality, which consciously promotes culture to society. The preparation achieved by the teachers in training allowed them to project innovative extension actions that contributed to their professional development and to the promotion of the scientific culture towards the community.
